Mr. Huu Mai

With a lifelong dedication to music and education, Huu Mai brings exceptional leadership, operational expertise, and pedagogical mastery to the Atlanta Boy Choir. As Interim Executive Director, he oversees the organization’s operations, ensuring the choir’s rich traditions thrive while embracing innovative growth. In his role as Assistant Artistic Director, he collaborates closely with the Artistic Director to shape the choir’s artistic vision.

Within the Atlanta Boy Choir, Mr. Mai directs the Training Choir and Young Men’s Choir, where his expertise in vocal technique and choral direction nurtures the development of young voices. His students have won national and international awards, reflecting his commitment to excellence and his ability to cultivate exceptional talent.

In addition to his work with the choir, Mr. Mai serves as the Director of Music at North Decatur Presbyterian Church. There, he oversees all aspects of the music program and conducts the NDPC Community Choir, which engages singers and musicians from across metro Atlanta. Under his leadership, the choir has performed masterworks such as Mozart’s Requiem and Fauré’s Requiem. His ability to inspire and elevate ensembles through challenging repertoire showcases his skill as a conductor and educator.

An accomplished pianist and educator, Mr. Mai is the Artist-in-Residence in Piano at Kennesaw State University. His innovative approaches to music education have earned him recognition, including the 2019 Georgia Music Teachers Association “Teacher of the Year” award and Steinway & Sons “Top Teacher” awards from 2019 to 2022.

Mr. Mai is a respected leader in the music community, having served in key roles within organizations such as the Cobb County Music Teachers Association and the Georgia Music Teachers Association. He co-founded the “Rising Star Concerto Competition,” fostering opportunities for young talents to shine. His dedication to community service and music education is evident through his involvement in initiatives that enrich the cultural landscape.

In 2014, Mr. Mai conducted the Atlanta premiere of Shanti: A Journey of Peace by Kanniks Kannikeswaran, uniting Hindustani and Western ensembles. An avid composer, his works have been featured in concerts across genres, including choral and concert music.

With his commitment to excellence and passion for nurturing young musicians, Mr. Mai is dedicated to guiding the Atlanta Boy Choir as it continues to flourish. His vision inspires confidence in parents, donors, and the community as he leads the next generation of choristers toward new heights in their musical journeys.
