People hear boychoir and envision a stage and a few concerts. The real answer is lot bigger, and more fun. A season runs for ten months, and it is packed. Come explore an Atlanta Boy Choir season:

Rehearsals

The heartbeat. Concert Choir I meets on Tuesdays, our Training Choir meets on Thursdays, and Concert Choir II meets both Tuesdays and Thursdays. It’s an intentional schedule, and the boys work on vocal technique, music theory, ear training, and the languages our repertoire calls for.

Long before an audience hears the first note, this is where the work of a performance begins. After a full school day, choristers arrive carrying backpacks, conversations, energy, and sometimes fatigue. Rehearsal asks them to pause, refocus, listen, and become part of an ensemble.

Each choir represents a stage in that development. Training Choir builds the foundations of healthy singing and musicianship; Concert Choir I strengthens musical literacy and ensemble awareness; and Concert Choir II applies those skills to increasingly demanding repertoire and performance preparation.

Through warm-ups and focused work on pitch, rhythm, language, phrasing, and interpretation, the boys learn that musical excellence is built patiently with one breath, one corrected note, and one rehearsal at a time.

Performances

Concerts and community events give our choristers the thing every musician needs: a stage and an audience. They learn to prepare, to focus, and to deliver.

But performance day starts well before the audience arrives. Choristers report early for warm-ups, soundchecks, staging, and final musical preparation. They learn how to enter and leave a performance space, arrange themselves on the risers, manage transitions, care for their uniforms, and remain attentive while representing the Choir.

What an audience experiences as a polished performance is the result of hours of preparation and the discipline to bring all of that work together when it counts.

Travel

In a typical year, our choristers get to tour and travel. This summer, 16 choristers took part in the 2026 Southeastern Heritage Tour through Selma, Birmingham, and Montgomery. [Click here to learn more about our 2026 tour.]

Over its history, the Atlanta Boy Choir has taken generations of boys across the country and around the world. And sometimes the performances they remember most weren’t on a concert program at all.

Alumnus Chris Guest remembers an East Coast tour that culminated at Carnegie Hall. Along the way, the Choir would occasionally stop for what the boys called “drive-by singings”—impromptu performances inspired by the places they were visiting.

While touring the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C., the Choir gathered to sing Mansions of the Lord. For Chris, who was preparing to become a military college cadet, the moment became overwhelming. He made it through only the first few words before emotion took over.

Years later, after nearly two decades with the Atlanta Boy Choir, he still remembers it as “one of the most powerful performances” of his time in the Choir.

Brotherhood

Somewhere between the rehearsals, performances, and miles on the road, the boys become a team.

They spend countless hours learning together, traveling together, working through difficult music together, and celebrating when all that work finally comes together. Ask an alumnus what stayed with him from his years in the Choir, and chances are the friendships will be near the top of the list.

Growth

This is the part that sometimes surprises parents.

The discipline of singing and the responsibility of performing shape character as much as musicianship. Choristers learn to listen—to their conductor, to one another, and to the ensemble around them. They learn responsibility, resilience, concentration, leadership, and what it means to contribute their individual voice to something larger than themselves.

Boys enter as students and grow into artists and leaders.

That is a season: ten months of music, performance, travel, friendship, and growth, open to any boy willing to try.

Auditions happen throughout the year, and the next one is always closer than you think. Learn more at atlantaboychoir.org/audition.
