Where Young Voices Meet History: The Atlanta Boy Choir’s 2026 Southeastern Heritage Tour

July 7, 2026

This past June, the Atlanta Boy Choir carried its sound into Selma, Birmingham, and Montgomery, singing in some of the most storied sanctuaries in the American South.

Some tours are measured in miles. This one was measured in meaning. This past June, the choristers of the Atlanta Boy Choir traveled into the historic heart of the Southeast for the 2026 Southeastern Heritage Tour, carrying their voices into cities where American history was written: Selma, Birmingham, and Montgomery.

For our boys, it was more than a series of performances. It was a chance to stand and sing in places they had read about in classrooms, to feel the weight of history in a room, and to understand that the music they carry is part of a much longer story.

The tour’s most moving moment came in Montgomery, where the choir sang at Dexter Avenue King Memorial Baptist Church, the congregation once pastored by Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. To raise young voices in that sanctuary was a reminder of why this choir travels at all: to meet history where it lives, and to honor it in song.

This year, as the Atlanta Boy Choir marks 80 years, the tour carried an added significance. Seven choristers traveled on scholarship through the Jesse Flanigan Scholarship Fund, ensuring that an experience like this was within reach regardless of a family’s means.

We are grateful to the congregations, host families, and audiences across Selma, Birmingham, and Montgomery who welcomed us so warmly, and to the supporters whose generosity makes touring possible.

For the past eight decades, the Atlanta Boy Choir has sung, and the world has listened. The 2026 Southeastern Heritage Tour was one more chapter in that story, and the next one begins with a single audition.
